Last year our program was struck with a great tragedy. A long time volunteer and office ray of sunshine, Toma T. Davis passed away.
He will be remembered by so many for his gentle nature and patience as he read with the students who came to our program as well as the kindness and joy he brought to our office. He was celebrated for his commitment to Allen county, especially our youth.
Project READS will continue to celebrate his legacy by honoring a volunteer each year who demonstrates his generosity and commitment to Project READS children. While there will never be another like Toma, we hope to see many strive to fill his shoes.
This past year has definitely be rough. As we continue to move forward and complete our mission, we had the absolute pleasure of partnering with CARIBU, a calling service made for reading with our kids when we can’t BE with our kids. Students are using school technology to read with our volunteers every week as we combat the dreaded “Covid slump”. Students can read any book available as well as play games and watch Storytime if they’re on a mobile device!
We are currently holding a special fundraiser to ensure that all of our students have full access to everything this app has to offer and hopefully jump start a possible summer surprise!
